FAQ

Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ page). Below, we have tried to answer the most common questions visitors to this our Web site may have. If you find that your question is not answered on this page, please email us info@becclesrifleclub.org.uk.

Do I have to have a Firearms Certificate to Join?

No - It is not a requirement to hold a FAC to be a member of the club. If you are new to the sport then it is impossible to obtain a FAC unless you are a full member of a club. All members (including probationary members) are required to sign a declaration that they are not prohibited under Section 21 of the Firearms act 1968 from holding or possessing any firearm or ammunition.

If I can&#39t get a FAC until I am a full member, how do I try out the sport?

The club has access to rifles that it can be used by members during club evenings to try out the sport. If they decide to continue they can either stay with the club guns or purchase their own (once a FAC has been granted).

Is there a probationary period for new members?

Yes - New members wishing to fire rimfire rifles must complete a 3 month probationary period before they are elected to full membership of the club. Probationary members wishing to only fire air weapons complete a one month probationary period before being elected to full membership. However if they then wish to fire rimfire weapons the full 3 month period must have been completed for them to retain their full member status. Probationary periods stated are a MINUMUM and all upgrades from probationary to full membership are at the discretion of the committee, refusal or longer probationary periods may be decided.

What does it cost?

Membership fees are £60 for members over 21, with junior fees being set at £20. Range fees are payable on a nightly basis of 50p per firer per night.

Do I need any equipment to join?

No - The only thing that you will need to shoot at the club is a thick jacket, everything else can be supplied. However once you progress you may wish to consider purchasing your own equipment.

Do you enter competitions?

Yes - We are affiliated to Suffolk County Rifle Association, and enter their Summer & Winter leagues. We also run our own club "name your own start" league a handicapped league open to all members designed to allow all competitors to compete on an equal basis. Individual members may also enter competitions arranged by external bodies (such as NSRA, other clubs or associations).
